On Saturday, I went to a city called Rancho Bernardo to help out some people whose houses got burned down. Unfortunately I forgot my video camera so there is no video of what I saw. But, it was an amazing experience. We went to this Man's house and the only thing standing was two stone pillars that were on his walkway. It was a very sad sight to see. My two friends and I started sifting through his house to find anything we could that had survived. We didn’t find much except for pottery. Everything else was destroyed. It was hard to look into his face when he would tell us where to search for belongings. Everything he ever owned was gone. He was telling us a story about how his 5 year old son was hiding under the covers of his bed when they were trying to get out of the house. It was impossible to not feel the pain that he felt. I am tearing up just picturing him talk about his family. We ended up finding one of his pocket knives and gave it to him. It was the only item we were able to save besides pottery. Even though we didn’t really do a whole lot, it was such a blessing to be able to help this guy out in anyway we could. Sad day.
